Abstract :
The area of multichannel network simulation has seen very little development and thus requires investigation. To this end, the authors have produced models for various network elements, using as a platform SPW by Comdisco. These models have been implemented using standard blocks from the SPW libraries and by writing custom coded blocks in `C´ to specify the functionality of the component. The components modelled include, lasers, multiplexers, couplers, single mode fibre, optical filters, EDFA´s and receivers. The simulation of an illustrative 50 channel high definition television (HDTV) distributive network using WDM combined with subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) has been carried out and performance evaluation effected
