Digital image processing and machine vision-an educational support package

This paper describes an integrated package developed for teaching purposes. In this context the package has been designed with the pre-requisite of accessibility in mind such that the student may experiment with both the hardware and software components. The student is able to gain a tacit knowledge of the image processing techniques and the package provides a platform for related coursework and final year projects. The complete system is IBM PC compatible and comprises a CCD camera, a digitising and storage card, a monitor and the source/executable code for the various image processing, feature extraction and classification algorithms
