Abstract :
It is easier to understand the ideas introduced by first showing some of the features of a simple system that has been implemented. This introduction is followed by a more conceptual discussion, which emphasises the generality and power of the examples used. The system is currently called Hyperdoc. Hyperdoc can run any finite state machine (up to a large size), and combines it with its manual. Hyperdoc is implemented by HyperCard. Hyperdoc provides a point-and-click user interface to whatever system it is simulating
