Abstract
The paper proposes the description of the study of a new 12 kW soft switching resonant power supply for a klystron which divides the weight of the power supply unit by a ratio of 3.8 and the size by a ratio of 1.6 for a lower cost. The simulation of both topologies is presented to define the best one to be used for the application. The simulation is used to study the regulation capabilities of both topologies, the effect of load changes and to calibrate the power components. Results from simulation are compared to real measurements on the bread-board. The results for each topology are analysed to choose the one which is the most suitable for the application. Then the final performances of the resonant power supply prototype are presented
