Abstract
BirdFinder is a bird search engine that applies concepts of information retrieval and Web 2.0 to allow nonexpert users to access information using text and audio search mechanisms. It integrates audio, images and identification characteristics related to the ornithology domain. Content is stored in a highly scalable NoSQL repository. The main contribution of this work is a software architecture and two complementary search mechanisms to access non-structured content. This paper presents an evaluation of the application using information retrieval relevance measures to evaluate the search performance. Evaluation shows a good performance for both search engines providing ground for further research.
