Abstract
Service disciplines are one of the most important aspects in high speed networks in order to provide guarantee performance services. The earliest deadline first (EDF) discipline is considered delay optimal. It minimizes the maximum delay of all packets because it selects the packet with the smallest deadline in each service time. In this paper we present the performance of a normalized version of EDF that offers identical delay bound but has a different average delay and standard deviation.
