Abstract :
The authors describe how the establishment of the range available for a high performance electric racing vehicle when it is at the design stage is a major factor in deciding the basic vehicle configuration, i.e. the battery type, battery mass vehicle aerodynamic drag characteristics, mass, motor size etc. In order to produce realistic range calculations, the simulation should, as far as possible, use data relating to actual circuit characteristics. It is thus desirable that the circuit simulation should reflect the anticipated usage for the electric racing vehicle. Data was therefore recorded for a Formula Vauxhall Junior single seater racing car on the Donnington Park Grand Prix circuit
