Abstract :
Today, low power factor and harmonics of capacitor input type rectifier circuits are recognized to be harmonic pollution to commercial power distribution systems. This paper proposes three types of improved single-phase rectifier circuits. The first is a type of voltage-doubler circuit composed of a capacitor-diode assembly, which is connected to the DC output terminals of full-wave rectifier circuits and has the function of re-rectifying the residual ripple wave of a rectified DC voltage and to add the re-rectified currents to the DC output again. The second type uses an additional LC filtering circuit to suppress and smooth the diode rush current. The third type uses a single phase AC input to a pseudo three or four phase converting circuit by using LC phase shifting elements. Each phase shifted wave is rectified by a three or four phase full bridge rectifier circuit, which has high power factor and efficiency. By introducing these new methods to rectifiers, high performance power supplies or electronic equipment can be realized for power consumption between 10 W-10 kW with relatively low cost
