In current competitive environment, engineering change management (ECM) ability can efficiently and effectively reflect the agility of new product development process in an enterprise. Most previous studies focus the issue on ECM frameworks, but these frameworks are deficient based on ECM standards. Also, few studies developed a standardized ECM system and practically applied in industry. This paper proposes to establish a standardized ECM system based on Configuration Management II (CMII) standard that supports ECM procedures and activities. This standardized CMII-based ECM system is specifically designed with a Full-track or Fast-track process depend on the properties of a given industry and its products to improve ECM efficiency and enterprise´s performance. This developed CMII-based ECM system has been implemented and applied in a Taiwanese motorcycle firm. The architecture and operational process of this CMII-based ECM system are detailed in this paper.
