Abstract
Interest has been centered on B-ISDN and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) because of its high and scalable bandwidth and its ability to support multimedia information. In parallel with this tendency, the advent of World Wide Web (WWW) has fueled fast expansion of the Internet. Although ATM is suitable for emerging high-speed multimedia applications, to be successful in this environment, an ATM network has to provide adequate interworking with existing applications and protocols (i.e., TCP/IP based applications). The main focus of this paper is to analyze the Integrated Access Equipment architecture for provisioning of Broadband Connectionless Data Service (BCDS) in ATM. This paper also proposes an address resolution mechanism in BCDS and modified encapsulation packet formats for carrying IP and ARP datagrams over BCDS
