Abstract :
The authors present vector quantization using image adaptive codebook (VQIAC), an image adaptive vector-quantization technique where the codebook generated from the input image is encoded by using variable-length transform coding (VLTC). It is shown experimentally that VQIAC-VLTC is competitive with both vector quantization using a universal codebook and the conventional VLTC operating on the original image. Excellent subjective quality is obtained at a bit rate of about 0.9161 b/pixel
