Abstract
Conventional flow control techniques based on a sliding window mechanism generally rely on feedback control messages from destination nodes to regulate traffic flow. In high speed networks, however, since propagation time across networks typically dominate whole communication delay, such mechanisms are not considered to be suitable for network traffic travelling long distance. So on behalf of window based mechanisms, the algorithm which controls traffic by regulating data input rate is used to control flow in the high speed communication environments. In this paper, we propose an input rate regulation scheme named shared token pool scheme, which not only avoids congestion but also increases network utilization. Through the simulation we showed that STP scheme could greatly reduce an average delay compared to that of original leaky bucket scheme so that it is thought to be useful for delay-sensitive services in high speed networks
