The paper highlights the substantial impacts that the global financial crisis had on China-U.S. agricultural trade by studying the changes in agricultural trade patterns and calculating the terms of trade. To better understand and resolve current issues, the paper researches East Asian financial crisis as a case study to explore its impact on these economies´ agriculture and agricultural trade, which provides experiences and essential measures historically. China´s agricultural trade deficit with U.S. increased significantly, and Chinese agricultural products´ terms of exchange turned to deterioration. The analysis of East Asian financial crisis and the resolution proves that pro-active government policies could accelerate economic recovery. However, governments should avoid backsliding into trade protectionism.
