Abstract
Iowa Electrical Light & Power Company´s Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC) completed surface enhancement of all control-room panels. This resolved a majority of the human engineering deficiencies (HEDs) identified during the Detailed Control Room Design Review (DCRDR) study. Operations staff involvement and emphasis on providing functional changes resulted in operational effectiveness. Procedure modifications were incorporated simultaneously with the changes to minimize the introduction of additional new HEDs. It was concluded that operator response was overwhelmingly positive to the accomplished refinement of the man-machine interface.<>
