Abstract
The author reviews some advanced technologies that can assist in improving the environment in the nuclear power plant control room. He concentrates on lighting, acoustics, and communications systems upgrades. In lighting, four different approaches to control room lighting are briefly explored. In acoustics, sound control is considered at the sound source, along the sound transmission path, and at the receiver of the sound. Modern advances in telecommunications are sampled for effectiveness in solving traditional control room problems. In all areas, careful, rational long-range planning is emphasized.<>
