Abstract :
This paper discusses the bandwidth allocation schemes for best-effort service, including ABR without and with UBR. For ABR without UBR, the fairshare allocation method is used, and emphasis is laid on the determination of fairshare bandwidth for ABR connections. For ABR with UBR, two methods are used: the shared bandwidth with preferred ABR (SB/PA) method and the guaranteed bandwidth with overriding (GB/OR) method. These methods are analyzed and their validity is checked by examples given.
