Abstract :
It is demonstrated that a thick patch with an annular gap matching capacitor is an optimum element from a practical design point of view, giving wide bandwidth operation, although at the expense of poor cross polarization. Feed inductance and radiation pattern effects are examined and a new patch equivalent circuit is developed that gives significantly improved results over the existing lumped element model.<>
