Abstract :
All the year around measurements of currents velocity profiles were carried out in South-East Baltic near Curonian Spit coast by bottom moored ADCP device to provide the data for the environment protection maintains of the National Nature Park area here. The detail analysis carried out on the summer period data obtained in stratified water. The time series of sampled data were processed using progressive vector diagram (PVD) plotting and by application EOF method. It was found the north north east wind with the speed higher 10 m/s generates the upwelling in investigating area. The intensive inertial internal waves dominate during development of upwelling event and such waves are saving during several weeks. The possible source of such waves is the strong horizontal temperature gradients in the area between the coast line and the offshore upwelling front line The west or south west wind generates the long period barotropic waves at along shore velocity component. This waves can be defined as coastal trapped waves. The PVD plots in the winter time include as usual the solitary circulations creating by the passage of the cyclones. In this case the adjustment time of the induced current to the wind direction is the significant feature of the local dynamics. The analysis shows this time value is about 11 hours for the investigating area. This estimation is in good accordance with the existing theoretical estimations for the shallow coastal area.
