Abstract :
It is noted that as ISDN (integrated services digital network) standards evolve from their beginnings, the data applications of users have an increasing impact on the types of standards developed. Customer data applications ranging from a full assortment of today´s equipment to some ISDN implementations are evolving to full future ISDN capabilities. Key directions for standards work relate to the need to interwork existing equipment with ISDN and the need to provide comparable and cost-effective arrangements. This direction is evidenced in such areas as ISDN interworking, terminal adaptation, broadband ISDN, and metropolitan area networks. It is concluded that a network of the future will bond today´s applications together using ISDN
