Abstract
The author gives information on the transposed harmonised standards relevant to the Supply of Machinery Safety Regulations, what the role of these standards is, the philosophy behind them and how they are being developed. The author first gives background information on the BSI, and also on the European Standards bodies, CEN and CENELEC, in order to put the subject into context. The author then gives some background on the way BSI is dealing with the phenomenal workload that has arisen due to the enormous amount of standards work that is now emanating from Europe
