Abstract :
Design optimization of hybrid transmission lines consisting of a single mode fiber and a dispersion compensating fiber has revealed that transmission lines with a dispersion slope of less than 0.03 ps/nm/sup 2//km and a newly defined equivalent effective area larger than 65 /spl mu/m/sup 2/ are feasible.
