Abstract
Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal compression is playing a vital role in biomedical applications aiming at the detection and remove of redundant information. In this paper we present a comparative study regarding the quality evaluation for ECG signal compression and propose a new measure for performance measurement as an alternative to the existing PRDN. This new measure, the D-PRDN (Detrending - Normalized Percent Root-mean-square Difference), represents the classical PRDN calculated using the first derivatives of the original signal and reconstructed signal.
