Abstract :
A description is given of an MAC (medium access control) and physical layer implementation of DAFNE, a multiservice optical local area network using the token ring access method. The nodes´ hardware structure and the technologies chosen for their implementation are described. The implementation of the layers and their interface with the optical ring are investigated. The optical components used are functionally illustrated, and a double-ring design is described. The level of compliance with standards and the degree of reliability and fault diagnostic capability are dealt with
