Abstract :
In this paper we describe the design of a second harmonic small-orbit gyrotron amplifier and a third harmonic large-orbit gyrotron amplifier which are designed to produce over 70 kW at X-Band and C-Band, respectively. The beam voltage is 35-45 kV and the nominal current is 4 A. The small orbit system utilizes a simple TE011 output cavity but the large-orbit system uses a vane-resonator cavity to enhance the interaction. The theoretical efficiencies of these tubes are 53% and 55%, respectively. We also examine the prospects for broadband operation and for operation at higher harmonics
