Abstract :
The new theory addressed to signals with finite rate of innovation (FRI) is based on the concept of minimal sampling rate of a stream of pulses. This paper describes the feasibility of two minimal sampling rate techniques not only in the case of Gaussian UWB pulse but also for its derivatives. Since the derivatives of Gaussian pulses are represented in the frequency domain by a bandpass spectrum and not by a lowpass spectrum as it happens in the case of pure Gaussian, the implementation of FRI concepts requires a specific approach. Relying on minimal sampling rate the UWB radar signals can be estimated in terms of time-delays and amplitudes of the echoes which indicate the position and strength of various scatterers. This method of signal estimation allows faster acquisition compared to the current signal estimation techniques and potentially reduces power consumption and complexity of UWB receivers. It is particularly suitable in applications such as ranging or positioning.
