Abstract
The aim of this paper is to test which multiresolution level should be used in lossy wavelet compression. The measurements were done using two sizes of test images, three wavelet base functions and three color spaces. Different orders of each wavelet base functions were also tested. The basic idea was to measure compression ratio and Figures in the results chapter show the change of the compression ratio on different resolution levels. The multiresolution level was not dependent on color space, wavelet base function, the order of the wavelet base function or the size of the test image. The third resolution level should be used in all cases. The color spaces RGB, L*u*v* and YCbCr and the wavelet base functions Biorthogonals, Symlets and Coiflets were used in this work.
