The staggering development of Chinese economy in the past three decades calls for a more efficient policy on technology innovations. On the one hand, technology innovations diffuse vertically, in which case they bring up more technology breakthroughs; and one the other hand, and they diffuse horizontally, in which case new technologies spread within the whole industry. This paper documents empirical evidences on how technology innovations diffuse in these two dimensions, and what factors affect this process. Our research is helpful for companies to choose a better approach of technology innovations.
