Abstract
It had been believed that a punctured convolutional code (PCC) was not suitable for a high rate turbo-code (Hagenauer 1996). However, in this paper, applying uneven puncturing, we find a good high rate PCC for a turbo-code. The BER performance is as good as that of TPC (turbo-product-code) at low SNR. This leads to much more flexibility in designing the code rate and code length, while the decoding algorithm is compatible with a low rate turbo-code.
