Abstract :
This paper presents the development of a novel TIR-based biochip which generates evanescent wave illumination for highly-sensitive fluorescent sensing. In this work, we will rely on a monolithic method to fabricate the biochip in PDMS which couples light from a laser diode through a single mode optical fiber to conduct TIR for evanescent wave generation. Optical simulation result has confirmed the occurrence of TIR at glass/water interface. Preliminary fabrication results using conventional bulk micromachining and polymer casting with PDMS will also be presented
