Based on the data of Chinese listed companies, this paper compares the top executive compensation of monopolistic state-owned enterprises with that of competitive state-owned enterprises and other nature of ownership. The results reveal the discrepancy among them and the causes, emphasize the singularity of top compensation system for monopolistic state-owned enterprises in the aspects of industrial and regional diversity, non-pecuniary compensation, executive ownership rate, and the like, and provide the basis for management of executive compensation in monopolistic industries.
