  • Abstract
    The assembly of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with valency control was explored in colloidal reactions. In this system, thiol-functionalized AuNPs (A-NPs) were reacted with excess citrate-stabilized AuNPs (B-NPs). By tuning the strength of charge repulsion between the B-NPs, NPs clusters of formulae AB, AB2, AB3 and AB4 were obtained. Polymer encapsulation of these nanostructures maintained the structural integrity during the isolation and purification. This integrated system combined the coupling, valency control, protection, and separation, allowing the rational structural assembly of colloidal products.
