Abstract
A Monte Carlo model is developed that allows the examination of statistical moments of the backscattered field from Rayleigh scatterers embedded in a fiber-reinforced composite laminate. The void-free composite is modeled as a continuously varying medium, while the porosity is considered to be monopole scatterers randomly disbursed in the sample. As a check on the model, first-order statistical moments are calculated and compared to field measurements from PMR-15 laminates
