  • Abstract
    This paper reported the formulation of culture medium for the production of superoxide dismutase (SOD) by Rhodotorula glutinis RY-06 strain with high yield of beta- carotene. The optimum composition of medium was as follows: sucrose as carbon source, peptone as nitrogen source, the ratio of carbon source to nitrogen source as 1:1 (w/w), 500 mumol/L of Fe3+ (using FeCl3) as metal ion of the coenzyme. The SOD activity could reach 2.19 times104 U/L in the preliminary optimized medium. The results suggested that strain RY-06 not only has high yield of beta-carotene but also can produce a mass of SOD under appropriate conditions.
