Abstract
Among the various image coding algorithms based on wavelet transform, SPIHT algorithm is a very effective and computationally simple technique for image compression. Although embedded encoding was first achieved by using the wavelet transform, similar approaches can be taken with other transforms. All phase biorthogonal transform (APBT) is a new transform which can be used in image compression instead of the conventional DCT. In this paper, we present an APBT-based embedded image coder. The experimental results show that the proposed APBT-SPIHT algorithm improve the performance at low bit rates, both in terms of PSNR and visual quality while keeping low computational complexity.
