Abstract
Summary from only given, as follows. In this paper, a numerical method is presented to carry out the shape optimal design of a square-wave synchronous machine. This procedure uses a discretized magnetic system, based on finite element analysis, and computes design sensitivity by differentiating the finite element matrix equation with respect to design parameters. The derivatives of the object function with respect to design parameters is calculated using the adjoint variable method [1]. This method is applied to the shape design problem of a square-wave generating synchronous generator.
