Abstract
A comprehensive quasi-3D SOA model is developed by decoupling the 3D problem into 2D cross-sectional and 1D longitudinal modules. In the 2D simulation, optical mode, equivalent carrier transport and material gain are calculated, and some effective parameters are extracted. Based on these effective parameters, the 1D approach provides both the static and dynamic simulations of SOA, which considers the ASE and optical signal in a general frame. The model is applied to the design and simulation of multi-channel signal amplification.
