Abstract :
We present a GaN/AlGaN based one-dimensional photonic crystal waveguide (1D-PCW) design for ultra-broadband mid-infrared generation in a quasi-phase-matched difference-frequency-generation (DFG) process. By optimally tailoring the phase- and group-velocity dispersion properties of symmetric 1D-PCWs, we show that the phase-matching condition for a DFG process could be maintained over a broad range of signal wavelengths leading to broadband mid-IR generation.
