Abstract :
On the basis of the coupled-mode method, transmission properties of the tapered fiber probes which are used for the scanning near-field optical microscope (SNOM) are presented in this paper. The forward and backward transmission efficiencies of the tapered fiber probes are discussed with different taper shapes, taper lengths and tip sizes. Calculation results show that a parabolic taper has an efficiency of about one order of magnitude higher than a linear taper.
