Abstract :
The performance of a fuzzy-based jitter management algorithm for voice streams is evaluated. The algorithm is implemented at the destination node without considering any information from the source or the network. The algorithm predicts the amount of destination buffering time required to keep the gap probability and display latency at a reasonable level. In our algorithm, the buffering time is calculated in intervals of N packets, and then applied to the system when the current talk-spurt is finished. The algorithm is studied under normal traffic and congested traffic networks. Based on the simulation results, an acceptable range for N is found to control the display latency and keep the gap probability at a predefined reference level.
