Abstract :
The authors describe the design of a 1.55 μm gigabit/s submarine repeatered transmission system. A repeater spacing of approximately 100 km with a small dispersion penalty in the gigabit/s region is achieved by combining 1.55-μm distributed-feedback lasers with zero-dispersion-shifted fibers. In addition, the reliability requirement and jitter accumulation performance for long-haul repeatered transmission are discussed. A 1.8 Gb/s submarine repeatered transmission system is simulated
