Abstract :
A laser diode driver (LDD) IC and a receiver amplifier IC are realized using a 0.35- μm CMOS foundry technology. The maximum output current of the LDD is 60 mA and the power consumption is less than 500 mW. The dc current of the pre- and limiting-amplifier is about 45 mA at a 5-V supply, corresponding to a power consumption of 225 mW. Open eye-diagrams were measured at the bit rates of 2.5 Gb/s from both ICs. The pre- and limiting-amplifier has a sensitivity of 5 mVp-p. The voltage swing at each single-end output is 200 mVp-p. Two ICs can be used in an optic-fiber SDH transmission system at the bit rate level of 2.5Gb/s
