Abstract
This paper proposes a novel approach to control of medical devices based on distributed IEC 61499 Function Block architecture enabling design and simulation of the entire system in one software tool using modular and reusable software components. The proposed approach is illustrated on case study in which this technique has shown improvement in design complexity, the development time and effort as compared to traditional central control.
