Abstract :
In this paper, we present an alterable data rate transmission scheme for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems under fast fading channels in wireless communication. This scheme is based on magic square space-time coding at the transmitter, which arranges symbols more symmetrically in the space-time plane. The least square (LS) or minimum mean square error (MMSE) method is used to detect the symbols at the receiver. We show that LS detection method gets better performance than the ML detection method for Alamouti code under fast fading channels, which frequently occur in fast moving mobile communications. Furthermore, this scheme achieves rate one data rate in its original way and can easily be extended to higher data rate until the full data rate of that of Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time architecture (BLAST).
