Based on survey data collected on 878 peasant households in northeast Sichuan province, this paper tests how dose income risk coping mechanisms affect peasants´ behavior and welfare under the stroke of the income risks. The result indicates: With an absence of the social level risk coping mechanisms, farmers depend heavily on the countryside community level and family level risk coping mechanisms to cope with income risks and reduce consumption fluctuations. Against the background of the countryside community level risk response mechanism is functionally limited, farmers have to rely on the family level risk response mechanism to deal with the income risk, or are forced to bear the results from the income risk after the occurrence of the risk, which will cause the reduction of the efficiency of agricultural production and operation and the vicious circle of poverty.
