Abstract :
The method of moments for the macromechanical modeling of the dynamic response of a thin plane laminae constructed of piezoelectric layers, each with a distinct but uniform thickness and electromechanical properties, is presented. The piezoelectric plane laminae is coated completely with very thin, perfectly conducting electrodes on and under an electric potential applied to its faces. A shear-deformable, two-dimensional theory of the laminae is formulated in invariant form. All the effects of elastic stiffnesses of, as well as the dynamic interactions between the layers of laminae are included. The linear theory governs the extensional, thickness, and flexural as well as coupled motions of piezoelectric coated laminae. The method of moments is developed for linear two-dimensional governing equations of piezoelectric plane laminae. Certain cases involving special geometry, motion, and electromechanical material properties of piezoelectric laminae are discussed
