Abstract :
It is a trend for enterprises to integrate their computer systems and applications developed during the past into an intelligent enterprise computing system. Such a system not only bridges the gap between isolated systems, but also provides a mechanism to enforce business policies which are vital to the success of a modern enterprise. However, an enterprise computing system, involving a large number of collaborative activities of legacy systems, usually have to confront various potential failures, from physical failures, e.g., site and communication failures, to logical failures such as unsuccessful cooperation of some activities in a task. In order to facilitate correct execution of collaborative business tasks, in this paper, we develop a model for intelligent enterprise computing, where a uniform failure handling method is proposed. Based on the model, we report our study on scheduling activities in enterprise computing systems with different failure and failure recovery mechanisms
