Abstract :
In this paper, we describe and evaluate a novel adaptive initiative polling machine (AIPM) scheme for providing QoS support in multimedia wireless networks, such as multimedia support in WLAN systems. The AIPM scheme deploys a predictive scheduler in the base station to predict the occurrences of all the packet flows in each station based on the inter-frame period and packet length of each packet flow. Then the base station adaptively initiates a polling policy to poll the corresponding station at the packet creation time of the flow for the packets. Simulation results show that the proposed AIPM scheme has much better performance for VBR flows compared with the EDCF scheme. It achieves almost no delay or jitters and improves medium utilization.
