Abstract :
Our project aims at building solar tracking system that will be able to track the position of the sun and align itself with the sun in order to minimize the angle of incidence of the incoming sunlight. The system will be built using Light sensors, microcontroller programmed in MATLAB® and DC motor operated by microcontroller and external power source. The system was tested by exposing it to the solar light on the rooftop of a building where there is unobstructed view of the sunlight and the motion was noticed throughout the day. Same procedure was repeated without the tracking control of the system. The results were compared and the efficiency of the solar tracking was much higher than that of a conventional solar power system. The power generated can be used for multiple purposes. For example night street lamps, emergency lighting system in a household or even a complete power solution for a home if scaled larger.
