Abstract
One of the major tasks at IETF´s, NEtwork MObility Basic Support Protocol (NEMO BSP) is to support the seamless and uninterrupted connectivity of mobile hosts using a specialized mobile router (MR) that directly connects the whole mobile network to the Internet. Seamless IP diversity based NEMO (SINEMO) outperforms NEMO-BSP in terms of handoff latency and related packet loss by utilizing the advanced loss recovery mechanism and multi-homing feature of stream control transmission protocol (SCTP). FMIPv6 was adopted to reduce handoff latency and related packet loss of MIPv6. To improve the handoff performance of NEMO BSP, FMIPv6 based NEMO (FNEMO) has been proposed. In this paper, handoff performance of two modes of FNEMO, Predictive-FNEMO (Pre-FNEMO) and Reactive-FNEMO (Re-FNEMO), and SINEMO are analytically compared based on handoff latency, handoff blocking probability and packet loss during handoff. The numerical results show that Pre-FNEMO outperforms SINEMO in terms of above metrics and Re-FNEMO also performs better than SINEMO in terms of packet loss during handoff.
