  • Abstract
A novel type of aperture distribution function, namely, the staircase distribution, is suggested in order to reduce the number of sources of radiating elements in the generation of narrow beams. In this type of distribution the number of sources required depends upon the number of steps involved in the distribution function. An array of short collinear dipoles is considered to generate narrow beams using a staircase type of aperture distribution. Results on the radiation patterns for N=100 elements and a normalized array length 2L/ lambda =50 are presented along with the suggested aperture distribution.<>
